Introduction
Firestops is available in different types to provide the most economical protection for different fire resistance ratings required.
Firestops consists basically of a special type mineral wool panel and coated with Flamemastic.
The Fire Stop System panels are available precoated from your dealer, but panels may also be installed uncoated, to be sprayed with Flamemastic after installation together with a length of cables both sides of the firestop.
Firestops is installed in one operation. No prior cleaning or priming of cables is necessary. Since the Flamemastic material is applied in one coat, there is no time-consuming drying time as with multi-coat systems.
Firestops does not employ solvents in its system, therefore, there is no danger of fire during application nor a health hazard for the applicator.
Firestops allows the installation of additional cables as well as the removal of old ones with greatest ease. A hacksaw or knife may be used to cut an opening into the panels which may be closed aftewards with parts of the removed piece or with loose mineral wool. Flamemastic, applied over the repaired area by brush or trowel, will finish the job.

Firestops has been tested in various European countries, all tests corresponding in principle with ISO R-834 (and therefore with ASTM E-119).
Firestops is available with fire resistance ratings from 60 minutes to 180 minutes.
THE SYSTEM
The requirements for cable firestops correspond, in general, with those prevailing for the wall or floor through which the cables lead. This way there is no derating necessary.
FIRE STOP SYSTEM I
providing 60 to 120 minutes fire resistance; this firestop consists of a specified Fire Stop System strong mineral wool panel coated both sides with Flamemastic. Flamemastic is also used as sealer. The cables on both sides of the seal must also be coated with Flamemastic for at least 500mm.

FIRE STOP SYSTEM II
providing 120 to 180 minutes fire resistance, this firestop consists of two mineral wool panels each level with one wall or floor side. The panels are coated with Flamemastic (outside only). An airspace remains between the panels inside the seal. Cables both sides of the seal should also be coated with Flamemastic for at least 500mm.

FIRE STOP SYSTEM III
providing a minimum of 180 minutes fire resistance. This type of firestop is basically identical with the FIRE STOP SYSTEM II except that the space between the two panels inside the seal is filled with loose mineral wool.
